A modeling approach for electrokinetic transport in double-porosity media

چکیده

Electrokinetic techniques have attracted considerable attention due to their competitive advantage in enhancing transport phenomena and remediation of low permeability soils. However, many types low-permeability porous media, such as active clays like bentonite, present a double porosity structure that strongly affects mass transfer processes. In this work, we develop modeling approach simulate electrokinetic media. The proposed model is based on the previously released code M4EKR explicitly considers electromigration well effects electrical diffuse layer charged For purpose, two levels been established: one associated with soil macrostructure (bulk water) other microstructure (diffuse layer). At latter level, effect electrostatic interactions imposed by negative charge clay particles modeled Donnan approach. comparison results between synthetic cases single systems shows fundamental role microstructural level. High enrichment cations and, therefore, high cationic fluxes are produced These mechanisms significantly modify extent cation thus, directly influence species determined interactions.

Double Porosity Models for Liquid Filtration in Incompressible Poroelastic Media

Double porosity models for the liquid filtration in a naturally fractured reservoir is derived from the homogenization theory. The governing equations on the microscopic level consist of the stationary Stokes system for an incompressible viscous fluid, occupying a crack-pore space (liquid domain), and stationary Lame equations for an incompressible elastic solid skeleton, coupled with correspon...

A variational approach to double-porosity problems

In this paper we outline an approach by Γ-convergence to some problems related to ‘double-porosity’ homogenization. Various such models have been discussed in the mathematical literature, the first rigorous result for a linear double-porosity model having been obtained by Arbogast, Douglas and Hornung in [7]. The two-scale convergence approach to double-porosity problems was developed by Allair...

Modeling flow in porous media with double porosity/permeability: Mathematical model, properties, and analytical solutions

Geo-materials such as vuggy carbonates are known to exhibit multiple spatial scales. A common manifestation of spatial scales is the presence of (at least) two different scales of pores, which is commonly referred to as double porosity. To complicate things, the pore-network at each scale exhibits different permeability, and these networks are connected through fissure and conduits. Although so...

2.5-D poroelastic wave modelling in double porosity media

S U M M A R Y To approximate seismic wave propagation in double porosity media, the 2.5-D governing equations of poroelastic waves are developed and numerically solved. The equations are obtained by taking a Fourier transform in the strike or medium-invariant direction over all of the field quantities in the 3-D governing equations. The new memory variables from the Zener model are suggested as...

Pore network model of electrokinetic transport through charged porous media.

We introduce a method for the numerical determination of the steady-state response of complex charged porous media to pressure, salt concentration, and electric potential gradients. The macroscopic fluxes of solvent, salt, and charge are computed within the framework of the Pore Network Model (PNM), which describes the pore structure of the samples as networks of pores connected to each other b...
